The 16th BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting was held in Jaipur in August 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairmanship where the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy 2030 was finalised. At the same time, it represents a next long-term economic cooperation framework for Warsaw after an earlier strategy covering the period up to 2025. At the New Delhi Summit in September 2021, The BRICS leaders endorsed the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy-2030
Key Focus Areas
- Multilateral Trading System: Upholding and leading an open, transparent and rules based international trading system at the core of which lies the WTO while protecting the interests of developing countries.
- Resilient Global Value Chains: Support for diversified and resilient supply chains, including in the areas of medicines provision, agriculture and food security.
- Digital economy & Services: Discourages digital trade based on shared principles of AI, e-commerce and cross-border digital services.
- MSMEs & Trade Finance : Access to trade finance, credit and international market for MSMEs (including invoice discounting mechanisms)
- Fundamental Features: Financial Cooperation – Increases the share of national currencies, facilitates and improves cross-border payment systems and reinforces financial co-operation.
- Innovation & Technology : Promotes collaboration in R&D, emerging technology, start-ups and innovation.
- Sustainable Development: Includes, but is not limited to, green growth, sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy and food security as well as inclusive development

- Encouragement to Trade & Exports: Enhanced BRICS market access can help Indian exports of Pharmaceuticals, Engineering goods, Electronics and Agri products.
- Lowers Trade Reliance: Enhanced synergies can reduce dependence and assist India to enhance sourcing.
- Helps the MSMEs: Better trade finance, credit assessment and invoice discounting will facilitate many Indian MSMEs to access global value chains and enter international markets.
- Enhances Supply Chains: India has the potential to be a trusted manufacturing and sourcing hub, especially for critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals and electronics.
- Advancing Digital Economy: UPI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in India can also be a major driver for cross border digital payments, services,e commerce.
- Enhances Financial Cooperation: A more national-currency settlement and a faster payment system can help lower the transaction costs for Indian businesses.
- Global South leadership: The strategy enhances India’s role as a leader in shaping a more representative and equitable global economic architecture.
Key Decisions Of Jaipur Meeting Of Trade Ministers
- BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy 2030: Adopted as an overarching document for BRICS economic cooperation in the medium to long term beyond 2025.
- WTO-Centred Trade System: Reaffirmed commitment to an open, transparent and rules-based multilateral trading system (3xW).
- Global Value Chains: Advanced the GVC Action Plan 2026–2030 for diversified and resilient global supply chains.
- MSME Support : Its core focus is on trade finance credit access invoice discounting and credit assessment.
- Digital Services: Principles adopted to ensure and support cross-border digitally delivered services.
- Services Trade: Emphasis on Greater Intra-BRICS Services Trade — encouraging including among IT and professional services as well as digital businesses.
