Why Study Evaluated Answer Copies

Reading an evaluated answer copy is one of the fastest ways to see what a well-constructed UPSC Mains answer actually looks like on paper. Every script below has been written by a Riyasat IAS Mentorship student and evaluated by experienced mentors — with margin remarks on introduction, body structure, value-addition, diagrams, micro-data, and conclusion. The objective is not to mimic, but to extract repeatable patterns: how toppers open an answer in 25 words, how they segment the body into 3–4 dimensions, how they layer current affairs into static GS, and how they close with a forward-looking conclusion.

  • See the opening move

    How a strong answer defines the core term and states its position inside the first 25–30 words, instead of warming up for half a page.

  • Read the body architecture

    Where sub-headings are placed, how a body is split into three or four dimensions, and when a diagram or flowchart earns its space on the page.

  • Spot the value-addition

    The committee reports, judgments, schemes and micro-data that lift an ordinary answer into the higher band — and how sparingly toppers use them.

  • Learn from the remarks

    The mentor comments in the margins are the real lesson: what was rewarded, what was redundant, and what the examiner was actually looking for.

How These Answer Sheets Were Evaluated

Each answer copy in this library was evaluated against four parameters. Any marks written on a script are a mentor’s internal evaluation of that script. They are not UPSC marks and carry no official standing.

    Did the answer address the actual demand of the question — the directive word, the scope and every part of a multi-part question?

    Structure

    Was there a clear introduction–body–conclusion flow, with the body organised into readable, logically ordered segments?

  3. 03

    Content depth

    Was the substance value-added, current and multi-dimensional, rather than a restatement of textbook lines?

  4. 04

    Presentation

    Was the script readable — sub-headings, diagrams and underlining used judiciously, and the word limit respected?

The library is grouped into 10 sets of scripts, each written by one student over the course of a program. Between them the sets cover GS Paper 1 to GS Paper 4 (Ethics), ethics case studies and full-length Essay, in English and Hindi medium. Every file opens as a PDF in a new tab; where both an unchecked and a mentor-checked version of the same script survive, both are listed so the evaluation itself is visible.

About these scripts

These are practice and mock-test answer scripts written by students during Riyasat IAS Mentorship programs between 2021 and 2026, and evaluated by our mentors. They are shared here with the writers’ permission, as scans of the physical paper. They are not copies of UPSC’s sealed examination booklets — UPSC does not release those — and no marks, remarks or assessments shown on them originate from UPSC or any examining body. Nothing on this page is a claim about any individual’s examination outcome.

Yes. Every file is a scan of a handwritten answer script written by a Riyasat IAS Mentorship student during the program and evaluated by one of our mentors, with the remarks left on the page. They are practice and mock-test scripts written under Mains-style conditions. They are not copies of the sealed UPSC answer booklets, which UPSC does not release, and no marking on them comes from UPSC.

Pick one question, write your own answer first under a timer, and only then open an evaluated copy on the same theme. Compare the introduction, the number of body dimensions, the value-addition used and the conclusion. Reading the copies without writing your own first teaches recognition, not writing skill.
